Lady Vandals Split Two, Tied For Second

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Lady Vandals find themselves in a tie for second after splitting the last two district games.

Shelby Harris pitched a third no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Brownsboro, but Erin Kipp and the Bullard Lady Panthers kept their perfect district record in tact with a 3-0 win over the Lady Vandals.

The Van girls were at 5-3, and in a tie for second with Athens, which was scheduled to be in Van on Tuesday. The district finale is tomorrow (Friday) against Canton, in Van.

Against Brownsboro, the game was scoreless going into the third, but a lead off triple by Chasity Smith set up the first run when Brittany Wood hit a sacrifice fly.

The 1-0 score held up until the sixth inning when Maranda Goode led off with a single. Pinch runner Devin Marsh advanced to third on a fielder choice by Chelsea Smith, then scored on a Carley Smith single up the middle. Carley Smith then scored on a single by Chasity Smith.

Chasity Smith finished the night 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Kayla Chitty was 2-for-2. Goode and Carley Smith were both 1-for-3 and Chelsey Smith was 1-for-2.

Harris struck out 10 against Brownsboro in picking up her seventh shutout.

Brittany Wood led the offense against Bullard, going 2-for-3, while Chasity Smith and Kayla Chitty each went 1-for-3.

Harris also struck out 10 against Bullard, giving up only four hits. One of those hits however, was a three-run homer in the sixth inning that broke a 0-0 tie.
