Lady Vandals Fall In Opener

The Lady Vandals left five runners on base in a 2-0 season-opening loss to the Lady Tigers of Wills Point.

Shelby Harris got the start and complete game, givng up only two hits. One of those, though, was a bases loaded bloop single behind first that gave Wills Point a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. One batter later, Harris’ second walk of the inning forced in a run, making it a 2-0 deficit for the Lady Vandals.

The Lady Vandals had singles in each of the first two innings, but left a runner at third in the firt inning, and another at first in the second. Van had its best threat of the night when Moore and Chitty hit back-to-back singles with one out, but Wills Points’ Taylor Austin picked up a pair of strikeouts, ending the threat.

The Lady Vandals managed another baserunner in the seventh, but could not puch the run across.

After the two-run fourth, Harris allowed only two baserunners, neither of which advanced past first. She had eight strikeouts and five walks on the night.

The Lady Vandals host Harmony tommorrow night (Friday), at 5 p.m.
