Track Teams Finish Second At District
The Canton Eagle boys and girls varsity track teams each finished in second place at the District 14-3A meet held in Canton last Thursday and Friday.
The boys point total of 143 was just short of district champion Van’s 150.5. The girls ended with 155 to Chapel Hill’s 208.
Keavon Milton and Evan Fike both captured two individual titles. Milton won both the discus and the shot put, while Fike captured titles in the 3200 and the 1600-meter runs. Kyle Vogt won the 800-meters and Devan Faber won the pole vault.
For the Lady Eagles, Kika Prox matched Milton’s wins in the discus and shot put. Kelsey Nixon placed first in the 400-meter run, and was part of the first-place 1600-meter relay team along with Cassi Smallwood, Courtney Smith and Katie Gummelt. Heather Sterling captured the final individual championship by winning the 1600-meters.
A total of nine boys and 12 girls qualified for the regional competition by finishing in the top three of their event.
