Annual Chamber Auction Set For This Saturday

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

Although "S.O.S - Shipwreck" will be the theme of the 2008 Wills Point Chamber Auction, planes, trains and wagons will be heavily featured.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, the chamber will host an auction and meal at Wills Point High School.

"Baby", the covered wagon and the carport it sits beneath will be among the items auctioned off. The wagon will undergo a facelift before it is delivered.

Sam Massey has provided a 30-minute plane ride in his 1946 J-3 Cub vintage airplane, and Amtrak has donated a round trip for two to San Antonio.

For the more pedestrian, Glynn Ellis has donated a restored 1950 John Deere tractor.

Some of the other items that will be available include:

Jewelry by Janette Blair, three glass display cases donated by Janice Grogan, a painting by Dan Fogel – "The Homestead."

Also, homemade fried pies and fresh baked bread by Mrs. Peggy Kinney, advertising on the chamber sign for one year, a three-month family membership to the Trinity Mother Francis Fitness Center in Canton, and a basic security system and one year of monitoring with a three-year contract, donated by Lone Star Security.

Also, a Remington shotgun 870 Express 12-quage or 20- gauge, donated by State Farm and Rick Johns, a two-night stay at Sam’s Town in Shreveport and spa from The Body Shop and Fire Tech, a custom framed pastel painting, "Sunflowers" by Paige Bridges.

There will be a fish fry, provided by The Red Barn, beginning at 5:30. Chamber directors will serve each table.

There will be a table decorating contest to go along with the shipwreck theme, and patrons are encouraged to dress accordingly.

The auctioneers will be Charlie Ellis along with George and Tolvia Wilcoxson, Keith Pearson and Sheriff R.P. "Pat" Burnett.

The MC’s for the evening will be Paul and Becky Sharp.

Tickets are $15 each. Title sponsors for the event will be AT&T and U-Rent It of Terrell. All proceeds go to benefit the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce.
