Haltom Scores Five TDs, Bulldogs Rout Malakoff In Home Finale, 47-0

Byron Taylor, Sports Correspondent

Clay Haltom is not a senior at Edgewood High School, but he celebrated Senior Night anyway, scoring five touchdowns in the Bulldogs 47-0 win over the Malakoff Tigers.

As a part of the pregame festivities, Hanah Chaney was named the Football Sweetheart, and then the Bulldogs set about dismantling Malakoff.

The visitors won the toss and elected to receive the ball, but immediately turned the ball over by fumbling.

Haltom (5 receptions, 80 yards; 7 rushes, 52 yards) began his night by taking in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Weston Jameson. On the next Bulldog possession, Haltom ran it in from 17 yards out, and with Mario Bustillos second point after, the score was 14-0.

On the first play of Malakoff’s next possession, Cody Davis recovered the second Tiger fumble, and the Bulldogs capitalized when Joseph Read carried it in from the 16. Bustillos’ kick made the score 21-0.

Jameson and Haltom would team up for the next two scores on passes of 4 and 20 yards. Bustillos hit one of two, and the Edgewood lead swelled to 34-0 at the half. 4

During the halftime show, the band crowned their Sweetheart and Beau, Katie Deen and Lee Curry, and then Haltom picked up where he left off, scoring from 11 yards out.

Nick Shulz added the final score in the fourth quarter with a one-yard plunge.

Edgewood (4-1) moved into a tie for first place with Kerens in the district race with one game to go. The Bulldogs will travel to Scurry Rosser next Friday, and have an open date on the final weekend of the regular season.
